Hankies

How come you can't find hankies anywhere anymore? Some of us don't want to be pitching thousands of kleenexes when we can just throw something into the laundry. There was a time when hankies were enviro-fashionable, just like those reusable shopping bags today. Which, of course, are much different than any other bag you have lying around.

  1. Check out Value Village and other similar second-hand stores for plenty of gently used, often adorably vintage hankies. Also, brand new hankies lose in environmentalism terms: retail creates what should be illegal amounts of garbage and recycling (hey, recycling wastes a lot of energy when you can avoid the recyclable materials completely).

Also, I really dislike the reusable shopping bag fad. It takes only a few minutes to make one, probably out of materials that you already have at home. And what is up with the nasty mylar ones? I cannot think of a worse material to make these things out of.
